Synne's Graphite Art
Around the 1490's is when the new dress for Renaissance began. It was a period where excessiveness was the norm. Many European countries stuck to medieval influenced styles and feathers were put on everything from wide-brimmed hats to the knees. It was a time of creative expression that went over the top into new discoveries.
The origins of the masquerade ball can be traced to the Italian Renaissance. The dances were held for the upper classes and nobility, but the special attraction of the mask was that people could flirt and dance with anyone, which would not have been allowed under any other circumstance.
There is nothing quite so exotic and exciting as a dance where masquerade ball masks are worn. Masks worn by the upper classes and Nobility were elaborately adorned with metallics and feather plumes. Colors of the period included pristine white linens or dark, rich and mysterious jewel tones. Celebrations among commoners would inspire masks adorned with found items such as leaves, nuts, berries and flowers.
Synne's artistic rennaissance mask creations, inspired by nature and the four elements; Air, Fire, Water, and Earth capture the uninhibited mystery of the masquerade. Beautiful and ornate, these masks capture the imagination taking us back to another place and time.
